SEPI’s Board of Directors authorizes the appointment of Mr. David Martínez Fontano as MERCASA’s Chairman

 

  • The candidate has been proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fishing, Food and the Environment

The Board of Directors of the Spanish state-owned industrial holding company Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI) resolved favorably the proposal for the appointment of Mr. David Martínez Fontano as Member of the Board and Chairman of MERCASA, once his candidature was submitted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fishing, Food and the Environment.

The appointment will be discussed this very afternoon by MERCASA’s General Meeting of shareholders and by that company’s Board of Directors, which is also envisaged to appoint Ms. Macarena Olona Choclán as its Secretary-General and of the Board.

Mr. Martínez Fontano is regarded as one of the most outstanding experts on wholesale food distribution and on logistics. He has a longtime experience at domestic and international level, after having developed his professional career as a manager in Spain in such companies as Carrefour, PwC, Canelafoods and Makro, besides of Metro in Germany. His last appointment was in Logista Italia, where he acted as Chief Executive Officer until this very year.

Ms. Olona Choclán entered into the corps of legal representatives of the State in 2009, and since August 2013 she has been in charge of this institution in the Basque Country. An expert in Bankruptcy Law and in Local Law, among other functions she has also been a Member of the Port Authority of Pasajes and the coordinator of the legal assistance agreement with the state-owned foundation Centro Memorial for the victims of terrorist attacks.
