SEPI’s activity within this field takes place through the following companies:
- SEPIDES, focused on identifying and attracting investments and on corporate promotion, provides technical and financial support to new corporate projects, or to the expansion of those already in operation. SEPI has reorganized its activity in support of corporate projects and for attracting investments around this Company, which is wholly owned by SEPI and which was incorporated in November 2002.
SEPIDES, together with its affiliated company Sodiex and with a company which Manages Venture Capital Entities: Sepides Gestión S.G.E.C.R., S.A., has continued with its strategy of growth, paying a special attention to the promotion and development of investment projects in the most backward areas, or in those which are experiencing an industrial reorganization process.
In the Entrepreneurial Promotion Area, Grupo SEPIDES carried out a number of actions focused on raising new funds and facilitating access to financing for new projects. It also expanded its capacity for managing European funds.
The Group continued managing its entrepreneurial projects portfolio, which amounts to 117 M€, although taking into account third party contributions to the funds managed by the Group, the amount would reach 246 M€, which entails a high leveraged ratio, or 2.11 times the funds provided by SEPIDES.
- The projects for diversifying HUNOSA’s coal mining activity take place through the company SOCIEDAD ASTURIANA DE DIVERSIFICACIÓN MINERA (SADIM), a company which was incorporated in 1999 as a tool for promoting the set up of an alternative economic structure to coal in the coal-mining areas. In 2002, as a result of that stipulated in the Company Plan 2002/2005, SADIM experienced a spinoff, so that its two activities (Engineering and Industrial Promotion) were split and a new company was incorporated, SADIM INVERSIONES S.A. (wholly owned by HUNOSA). This new company seeks to be a dynamic and effective tool for economic promotion.
- Besides, SEPI collaborates with the Fundación para el Desarrollo de la Formación en las Zonas Mineras del Carbón (Trust for Training Promotion in Coal Mining Areas), through the company SADIM (wholly owned by HUNOSA), actively working on the development of the coal mining areas with the goal of generating alternative jobs to those provided by coal mining.
- During the last few years, the mining company MAYASA has been carrying out a significant work, different from its main activity, focused on the economic and social development of the Almadén area. The Company has applied its experience and resources to the environmental recovery and the revitalization of the industrial heritage which has accumulated around the mining activity, with the creation of Almadén’s Mining Park, as well as to the area’s economic promotion.
