INFORMATION ABOUT FUNDACIÓN SEPI
Incorporation:
It was incorporated by the Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI) on March 10th, 1964, as a Non-profit and Educational Foundation. In 1982 it adopted the name of Fundación Empresa Pública (Foundation for the State-Owned Enterprise) and in 2002, it changed again its name for the current one of Fundación SEPI.
The Fundación SEPI is governed by a Board of Trustees, which is chaired by SEPI´s Chairman.
Goals:
The Foundation´s main goals are to promote and carry out studies and researches about the enterprise, the corporate strategies and the applied economy, as well as about the state-owned corporate sector and the privatization processes. Equally, it promotes training, and generates and spreads the scientific basis on corporate matters.
The activities which it carries out are:
- Programs of training and practice scholarships in collaborating companies or institutions, for young university graduated. Its number can vary, oscillating between 300 and 450 each year.
- Maintenance of a hall of residence attached to Madrid´s Universidad Complutense, and which accommodates 230 students.
- A program of research on economics began in 1974, for the training of researchers and the carry out of studies and of monographic researches in the areas of industrial economy, state economy and econometrics. Among the manifestations of this program, each year is carried out the Survey on Corporate Strategies, a panel survey whose target are 1,800-2,000 Spanish industrial companies, and which includes over 100 questions, which provide a valuable source of data and which results in a number of annual reports and to many research works.
- A program of research on economic and corporate history started in 1991 and destined to the promotion of researches on industries, companies and subjects of special significance for the understanding of the Spanish industry and of the industrialization process in its historical perspective. It publishes working papers and a collective book each year.
- It publishes two quarterly scientific journals, which have a world reputation.
- Investigaciones Económicas (Research on Economics), which publishes both theoretical and empiric articles, paying a special attention to the analysis of the Spanish economy. At the moment, it occupies the first place on the ranking of the Spanish journals on economics.
- Revista de Historia Económica (Journal of Historical Economics), it collects the researches within the area of the history of the economy, and contributes to spread the works with a historical perspective, both in Spain and abroad. It is regarded as one of the first rate journals about the Spanish economy.
- Other non-permanent activities: conferences and symposia cycles.
