One delegation from Korea Nuclear Fuel visits ENUSA

12/07/2016 - Madrid
Press release ENUSA

In the last week of June we received at our facilities a Korean delegation from KEPCO Nuclear Fuel Co., Ltd. (KEPCO NF), headed by Mr. Jae Kook Kim, Vice President in charge of enlarging the fuel factory at Daejeon.

The delegation paid a visit to ENUSA’s main offices in Madrid and to the fuel factory of Juzbado. The issues discussed were ENUSA’s capabilities for supplying the equipment for fuel manufacture and inspection which might be of interest for the project for enlarging the Daejeon factory.

During the last day of the visit, the KEPCO NF’s representatives went to Tecnatom, where they had the opportunity of seeing the Tescan pilot passive scanner facility.

Businesses in different fields

KEPCO NF and ENUSA hold frequent business contacts in different fields. The result of these relationships has been the SAVAN code for determining the deformation of the operating fuel material, or the FADA (Fuel Assembly Drop Assembly) model, which has been jointly developed with Westinghouse.

KEPCO NF is the fuel exclusive supplier for the 25 nuclear reactors in South Korea. Furthermore, the country is building three APR1400-design reactors, with a further eight reactors programmed.

The United Arab Emirates, in a consortium with South Korea, will build four APR1400-type reactors at Barakah, and whose core loading and its first reloads will be supplied form South Korea. As a result of the above, KEPCO NF needs to increase the fuel production capacity in 300-350 Tons of Uranium enriched per year.
