The exhibition of AGENCIA EFE Heroes of Spanish Sport starts its international tour in New York
AGENCIA EFE inaugurated this Thursday in New York the photo exhibition Heroes of Sport, a tour through the Golden Age of Spanish sport, in a ceremony at the main offices of the Instituto Cervantes and which was attended by the former soccer player Raúl González, currently 'Country Manager' of LaLiga in the US.
The exhibition, which during all this year could be watched in Spain with the support of the Fundación Deporte Joven of the Consejo Superior de Deportes, is made up by a collection of twenty images which had never been published of the great Spanish sportsmen and women, most of them finishing off their training for the Summer Olympic Games of Río 2016.
Raúl, which appears on two photographs, took advantage of the opportunity for paying homage to his own childhood heroes, from the soccer players Diego Armando Maradona or Emilio Butragueño, to the cyclist Pedro Delgado, the basketball player Fernando Martín, or the tennis player Arantxa Sánchez Vicario.
'All of us have had some heroes, those who point you the way forward, and many of my heroes are soccer players, but also from other sports. They are those who make an impression on us for their values, effort, and capacity. And thanks to them, I finally enjoyed a career which I had never dreamt about, which consisted in playing soccer during 21 years”, stated the former captain of Real Madrid.
Heroes of Sport, with the sponsorship of LaLiga, comes to New York with new spectacular images of Pau Gasol, of Garbiñe Muguruza with her brand-new Roland Garros trophy, or of Javier Gómez Noya, the world champion of triathlon and recent winner of the Premio Princesa de Asturias for the Sports.
First stop of its international tour
An 'urban and movable' exhibition, in the words of AGENCIA EFE’s Chairman, Mr. José Antonio Vera, who recalled that the exhibition was born two years ago in Madrid, and that after making a tour of several Spanish cities, it now makes a stop in New York, the first stage in its international tour, and with the wish of taking it to the “Sport Olympus” in Rio.
For his part, the Deputy Secretary for Sports, Mr Miguel Cardenal, pointed out that the exhibition shows very well the evolution experienced by Spanish sport along the last years, and he praised the role played by AGENCIA EFE 'for its contribution to Brand Spain”, as a result of making these great sport successes known to the rest of the world.
On the twenty images, which are part of AGENCIA EFE’s graphical archive, appear other great heroes of Spanish sport, such as Rafa Nadal, Carolina Marín, Ona Carbonell, Andrés Iniesta, the Spanish national team of rhythmic gymnastics, with Alejandra Quereda in charge, or Lidia Valentín, among others.
Also Fernando Alonso, the Spanish national soccer team trained by Vicente del Bosque, Mireia Belmonte or Ruth Beitia, many of which have been seen the world over through the “Google Cultural Institute” platform, which previously included this collection within its cultural website, which expands the works of the most important museums.
For his part, the President of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, pointed out that the common denominator of all these sportsmen and women is their capacity for sacrifice and for keep fighting until they achieve what they set out to do, as is the case of Raúl, recently appointed 'Country Manager' of this institution for its expansion into the US.
The inauguration was attended also by the Spanish consul at the Big Apple, Juan José Herrera de la Muela, by the Ambassador before the UN, Román Oyárzun, by representatives of big Spanish companies which are present in the US, as well as the US sport industry and the Major League Soccer (MLS).
