The Moroccan Mr. Anouar Dabab and the Portuguese Ms. Joana Pereira break the record of HUNOSA’s Ruta Santa Bárbara
The Moroccan Mr. Anouar Dabab and the Portuguese Ms. Joana Pereira, who lives in León, triumphed on HUNOSA Santa Bárbara Trail, which celebrated its silver jubilee in a grand manner, since the winners broke the race’s records, and 200 participants managed to reach the finish line.
Mr. Dabab came with the backing of his victory this same year in the Canillejas Popular Race, which turned him into the favorite for the triumph. The Moroccan long-distance runner made good the odds and started determined not to give opportunities to his rivals, since he was seeking not only to win the race, but also to set a new record, which until now was held by Mr. Iván Cánovas, from León.
His determination from the very beginning led him to set a record of 43:50 on the finish line, thus achieving his goal of setting a new record in the race, lowering by six seconds the record achieved by Mr. Cánovas.
The Malian Mr. Rodrigo Rodríguez was incapable of following the strong rhythm set by Mr. Dabab and he crossed the finish line in the second position (47:24). Mr. Rubén Rodríguez, from the Cerezal Team, arrived third (47:52).
Ms. Joana Pereira also took to the track decided to make her name well known in the history of the Ruta Santa Bárbara. The Portuguese proved her superiority against her rivals from beginning to end, and achieved a record at the finish line of 51:35, thus setting the best time in the female category, which up to then was in the hands of the Spanish racer Ms. Laura Fernández with 51:42.
Ms. Leticia Prieto, an athlete from the team Toscaf-Recta Final made a good race and proved that she is on top form, achieving the second position (52:56). The long-distance runner from the team Ribadesella, Ms. Itziar Méndez, who is overcoming som physical problems and who knows what is winning this contest, which every year joins in a sporting way the river valleys of the Caudal and the Nalón, was third (55:54).
