CORREOS’ branch offices collect almost 17 Tons of food for Spanish Food Banks
CORREOS’ branch offices have collected almost 17 Tons of non-perishable foodstuffs which have been handed over to the Food Banks all over Spain. Under the slogan “Dónalo con CORREOS” (Donate it with CORREOS), this initiative is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility program of the postal company.
The ceremony of the handing over of the collected material, which took place this morning at the head offices of Madrid’s Food Bank was attended by the Vice President of the Spanish federation of Food Banks (FESBAL), Mr. Ignacio Mata Ramayo, the Director-General of Madrid’s Food Bank (BAM), Ms. Carmen Polo Sánchez, and by the Secretary-General and of the Board of CORREOS, Mr. José María Elías de Tejada, and CORREOS’ Chairperson, Mr. Javier Cuesta Nuin, who thanked employees, volunteers, and customers for their contributions.
At the same time that this event was being conducted, in the remaining Spanish provinces took place the handing over of the foodstuffs collected at all the postal offices to the different Food Banks which are members of the FESBAL.
This collection campaign has taken place from October 28th to November 5th, and in took part all the branch offices –a total of 2,400 - for the second time running, which have collected during nine days basic foodstuffs, such as food for children, canned food, pulses, cooking oil, pasta and rice, all of it donated by companies, natural persons, and employees.
The 55 teams of volunteers which make up “CORREOS Solidaridad” –the corporate social responsibility program of the postal company – have collaborated in the tasks for classifying and recounting the food collected at the different postal offices. Before that, employees at each branch office made an interim classification of the foodstuffs, with the purpose of facilitating their classification and recount by the volunteers. All the foodstuffs handed over to the Food Banks in all of Spain will be distributed among the persons more in need.
Nearness of the postal offices
Thanks to the Company’s presence everywhere in Spain, CORREOS facilitates the collection of food, since any citizen has near a postal office for making his or her solidarity contribution.
This campaign takes place within the framework of the agreement signed in 2013 by CORREOS and FESBAL with the aim of facilitating the collaboration between both organizations through campaigns promoted by FESBAL, by the Food Banks which are associated to it, or on the basis of initiatives fostered by the postal company for collaborating with them. Thanks to this kind of solidarity campaigns, CORREOS takes further steps in its Corporate Social Responsibility policy and in its commitment with Society.
