Today, May 11th has been a really unforgettable day for all Turf lovers; in the morning took place at the Paseo de la Castellana four exhibition horse races which were attended by thousands of persons from Madrid in a unique world event, which was a success for everybody. Madrid Urban Turf paid homage to Spanish Turf and showed to Madrid’s inhabitants and visitors the sporting spectacle which every Sunday takes place at the horse racetrack of HIPÓDROMO DE LA ZARZUELA and the fantastic leisure plan which the facilities offer every weekend.
At HZ the thirteenth spring season race meeting was contested, which was attended by around three thousand five hundred persons, who left at the box offices a taking of more than 122,592 Euros, with a triple in the first race (1 – 4 – 11) which had a 1,052 Euros payout.
The Gran Premio Nacional was the main race, in which, without any room for a surprise, the colt from the stable Cuadra Di Benisichi, Arkaitz dazzled the public. After maintaining a sixth place very comfortably during all the race, the horse trained by Francisco Rodríguez took off strongly on the outside of the track, winning a resounding victory without almost any requirement from its jockey José Luis Martínez, who stated that he regards it as a splendid colt, with a great future ahead.
The second place went to Shigueru, which made an extraordinary race, although ending six and a half lengths behind the winner. Nelson was third, almost two more lengths behind.

Another of the most important contests in the evening was the Premio Velayos, in the second race, which was won by the colt from the stable Cuadra Bering. Yuso had a walk, rode by Oscar Ortiz de Urbina, strongly sprinting until it won a brilliant victory by three lengths ahead of Barbillón, who won the silver. Niquel managed to arrive third.
This has been the second triumph achieved by Jesús López as trainer, by Urbina as jockey, and stable Bering as owners, since the first race in the evening ended with this team’s victory.
It was the Premio Camprodóm, in which after being at the head of the pack Zuloaga during almost all the distance, resisting until winning the third place at the podium, Tramazales won a very easy victory running on the outside lanes, imposing himself with authority on Cronos, who arrived second, four lengths behind.
The team made up by Jeremy Crocquevieille and Teodoro Callejo also managed to obtain a twin victory this evening. In the third race, the Premio Torr, the favorite Mazariegos, made a real walk in which it won its fist victory after taking to the track five times.
