Between the la Plaza de Lima and that of Cuzco will be installed a 1,000 meter long track on which will be disputed four exhibition races with three thoroughbreds in each, in order to bring closer the wonderful world of Turf to all the inhabitants and visitors to the region of Madrid. At these races will participate horses such as Makaamen, Vanity Fair or Camuray, rode by the jockeys José Luis Borrego, Francisco Jimenez, Jorge Horcajada and Victor Sánchez; the paddock will be located at the open area in front of the football stadium Santiago Bernabéu; the last race will be held at 01:00 pm. It will be a unique event in the world, as never before horse racing had been held at a city’s heart.

It will be possible to enjoy also a concert by the band Lagarto Amarillo and a show of Andalusian horses from the stable Yeguada La Cartuja, among other programmed shows. This event seeks to pay homage to the Spanish Turf and, besides it will constitute the first initiative of the Open HZ, which is a plan for promoting the horse racetracks and which will begin this month of May at HZ for offering to Madrid’s inhabitants and visitors a renovated and ambitious leisure plan with concerts, fairs and exhibits.

Horse racing also at HZ

Later, at 4:30 pm, will begin the show at the Hipódromo de La Zarzuela itself, thus completing a great turf day, in which will be contested six races, among which stands out the Gran Premio Nacional, a classical race run on a 2,200 meter distance for three-year old colts who were born and bred in Spain.

The Nacional (A-Category) awards 45,900 € in prizes, of which 27,000 € are for the winner, and it is one of the most traditional contests in the history of this racetrack. In this series Arkaitz is unanimously singled out, after his splendid victory at the colts Poule on April 20th, besides, on the four times he has taken to the track he has been beaten only by Noozhoh Canarias. Rivals such as Nelson, which although has not run since his victory at the Premio Opcional more than two months ago, or Shigeru, will try to get among those who arrive first.

Completing the thirteenth spring season race meeting at the El Pardo’s facilities five further races will take place; in the first stands out the visit which will pay the top Brazilian jockey Silvestre de Sousa, the winner of this year’s Dubai World Cup with African Story, from the stable Cuadra Godolphin, who will ride the debutant colt Deinonychus, registered at the great Epson Derby and trained by the English trainer Leon Phillips, who has recently installed himself at HZ. It will be the Premio Campodrón, with a total of thirteen three-year old colts and fillies who have never won, who will run a 2,100 m. distance, and in which the horses with the best odds are Yarte and Tramazales.

The Velayos (B-Category), will be in the second race, on a 2,200 meter distance, in which will take part seven three-year old colts. The favorites are Yuso, who was widely liked for his sprint on the Poule, on which he arrived third; Alfoz, after his second position in his last race on the same distance, and Níquel, who has just won on the same distance. It is important not to forget Barbillón, who faces this distance for the first time and although he did not finish as expected at the Poule, this time he is making a good impression.

The Premio Torr on the third race with a 1,600 meter distance, will be the race in which more contestants will take part in this meeting, as twenty participants will take to the track, all of them three-year old horses which have not yet win a race, with Mazariegos heading the odds; the fourth race, the Premio Octaviano Griñán (first part of the divided handicap on 1,600 meters, will be contested by twelfth pretenders, and the winner will give us the number which will be included in this week’s Lototurf,; he might be again Supercoco, who is in very good shape, or Capearth; and the evening will end with the second part of the handicap in the Premio Ming with eigth pretenders, among which Carrousel and Blantor are the favorites for being at the top of the podium.

Gastronomic and leisure offer

To this splendid sporting evening must be added the gastronomic and leisure offer which the Madrid’s horse racetrack will offer to all, and in which the admission ticket has a price of 5 € for adults and is free for children less than fourteen years old. These tickets can be very easily purchased online at HZ’s website, and the telephone numbers for making reservations at the horse racetrack’s restaurants are as follows: 659 97 53 02 / 638 76 68 94.
