INFORMATION ABOUT ENSA
In the market for new-generation reactors, competence continues being very intense. Westinghouse offers its Advanced PWR 1000 jointly developed with Mitsubishi, which acts as its preferential supplier, while General Electric has Toshiba and Hitachi as its suppliers for the BWR power stations. Equally, in South Africa, the Government authorized the building of the PBMR, in which the Grupo Ensa will be one of the main suppliers.
Activity of the company in year 2009:
The Grupo ENSA has also been negatively affected by the international financial crisis, as it affected energy consumption and created serious problems for financing the large projects for the construction of new nuclear power plants, which has resulted in the need to renegotiate some projects in which it was involved. Actually, the South African PBMR project has been cancelled, that of Exelon has been indefinitely delayed, and that in North Anna has been postponed; the last two in the US market.
Notwithstanding the above, Grupo ENSA, thanks to its experience and technological prowess, as well as a number of agreements with Technologists and Suppliers, has achieved a reputation as a trustworthy supplier, which has allowed it to win orders amounting to 183 Million Euros, among which mention must be made to the supply of a steam generator for Senpec for its new power plant in Hainan (China), three steam generators and a replacement pressurizer for the Ringhals power plant (Sweden) with Areva, one vessel cap for the power plant in Krsko (Slovenia), three replacement generators for EDF in France, 22 heat exchangers for the power plant in Taishan (China), and 6 DPT containers for ENRESA. The characteristics of some of these contracts (with the purchase of the materials on account of the Customer), has made possible the immediate start of production, setting off in part the fall in the activity which would have happened as a result of the cancellations and postponements.
As a result of the above, the order book of the Grupo ENSA at the end of 2009 amounted to 322 Million Euros, of which 17 Million Euros corresponded to the ENWESA affiliated company. Equally, ENSA has maintained its investment plan for the modernization of its facilities and the increase in its production capacity, so that it will be able to build components for the next generation reactors, which have a larger weight and volume, for export purposes.
The company recorded in 2009 a 5.2 Million Euros profit, much higher than that recorded a year before, basically due to the customers taking over the costs for the contract cancellation, which provoked that the compensations received have been much higher than the growth of the costs as a result of the increase in the activity.
