EFE’s head office will move this year to Avenida de Burgos
The head office of the Spanish news agency AGENCIA EFE will be moved this year to Avenida de Burgos in Madrid, after almost 35 years in Espronceda street, which constitutes a further step in the direction of continuing being a modern and competitive company.
The Chairpersons of Agencia EFE, Mr. José Antonio Vera, and of Sepides, Ms. Rosa María Mosulén, in the presence of the SEPI’s Chairperson, Mr. Ramón Aguirre, signed today the contract for renting the new facilities in the building Edificio Génesis, which is owned by SEPIDES, and which is located at Avenida de Burgos 8 B, an office buildings area which lays between the Chamartín train station and the ring road M-30.
Mr. Aguirre explained that, with this decision, both EFE’s new management team and that of SEPI seek to meet the future needs of the Company, of its workforce, and also to save money.
SEPI’s Chairperson stated that the option which had been envisaged at first that of moving Efe’s head office to a newly-built facility located at the urban expansion area of Vallecas did not enjoy the support of the Agencia’s workforce, due to the transport and communication difficulties which it would have posed for a large number of its employees.
The new offices are located 400 meters away from the metro station of Bambú (line no. 1), at 10 minutes on foot from Chamartín’s metro and train station, and there are a number of bus stops very close.
Mr. Aguirre congratulated himself for the savings which this change will report, as it represents a significant costs reduction, which only in rent will mean around 500,000 Euros less per year.
Besides, Agencia will stop paying this rent to “a third private party”, and will begin paying it to a company which belongs to the same Group, that is, to Sepides. SEPI’s Chairperson pointed out that the decision to choose the Vallecas’ building was one of those options which “are made in previous mandates” and that are “full of curious details”.
In this sense, he stated that SEPI’s Internal Audit Unit is investigating the deal in “all its aspects” – financial, legal, and as an investment – because “it was not well managed” in any of those issues.
Mr. Aguirre informed that in the near future some of the companies which are affiliated to the Company will be located in those facilities.
Mr. Vera and Mr. Aguirre, together with Sepides’ Chairperson, Ms. Rosa María Mosulén, after the contract’s signing ceremony took the opportunity of visiting the building Edificio Génesis, which was built in 1988, and to which the Agencia will move during this year.
The building has a total of 18 floors for office purposes and 3 underground floors for parking; in 2010 a comprehensive reform took place, which affected all the facilities.
EFE will occupy 15 of the 18 floors, more than 11,000 square meters, as well a space on the ground floor, on which a television studio will be located. During the next few months the works for adapting the building space to EFE’s activity will begin, in order to obtain modern and flexible facilities, integrating technology and space for supporting the new working procedures.
With open-plan floors, with plenty of natural light to all the work positions, the head office will have equipped meeting rooms, multipurpose and leisure areas, all with a view to increasing the collaboration among the different departments and delegations, improving the production processes and stimulating the communication.
EFE’s employees will be able to have access to many services which are around the building, such as coffee-shops, restaurants, bank offices, pharmacies and shops. The relocation from the street Ayala to that of Espronceda meant the consolidation and growth of EFE as the most important Spanish-speaking news agency and the fourth at world level, and now, the Agencia expects too that the effort “made by all the great professionals” which make it up will provide an opportunity to continue being a modern and competitive company.
