CETARSA completes the purchase of the tobacco harvest for 2012 with a 19.5% increase on the previous year
The Compañía Española de Tabaco en Rama (CETARSA) has closed today the purchase of the tobacco harvest for 2012, after signing the contracts with all the cooperatives which operate in this industry. By volume, the tobacco purchased represents a 19.5% increase against the purchase made last year, reaching a total of 29,357 Tons, which will be produced by 1,910 growers.
The largest increase (22.4% more) has taken place in the purchase of the Virginian variety, which reaches 24,168 Tons; this shows CETARSA’s commitment with the domestic tobacco industry, especially with that located in Extremadura, where 95% of all Spanish tobacco is produced. Of the Burley variety 4,945 Tons have been purchased, and 244 Tons of the Havana variety.
CETARSA really appreciates the trust that tobacco growers have put on the Company. Equally, it wants to express its gratitude to its customers, and especially to Altadis/Imperial, as well as to Japan Tobacco and Philip Morris, for their efforts in favor of Spanish tobacco and the commitment they have shown with this industry.
